Nicholas Randy Lewis, a 25-year-old ex-BYU student was accused of sexually abusing young girls and soliciting sex online from teenage girls. He has been sentenced to a minimal amount of jail time and probation.

Although he has openly admitted to sexually abusing young girls “more times than I can count,” he will be serving a total of 102 days in jail once credit is applied for time served, according to court records. After this jail time, he will have to register as a sex offender, and he will be on probation for 4 years. During these four years, he will be subject to random searches of his “communication devices.”

Lewis was arrested in December after he spent 6 months chatting online with who he believed to be a 13-year-old girl, but really was an undercover police officer. He solicited sex from this fictitious girl multiple times, and he stated that he has always liked young girls. Lewis even asked if she knew any other girls that would be interested.

Lewis also admitted to sexually abusing young family members as young as 5 or 6. He reported that he preferred children of this age because they would not remember what he had done to them.

The punishment does not fit the crime. 102 days in jail does not account for the countless lives he has damaged. Registering as a sex offender will not restore any of those girls’ innocence. Random searches of his “communication devices” are not enough to keep our neighborhoods safe.

We must set the precedent that no abusers can escape the system like Lewis did. We cannot let abusers slip by without consequence. Join the fight to recall Judge McDade by signing this change.org petition here.
